The Royal Cliff Beach Hotel is a new concept in resort development for Thailand and one that for a variety of reasons appears to be most opportune. In next month’s issue of BIT there is an article on the impact of the energy crisis on tourism in the Pacific area which includes all the countries of Southeast Asia. The thrust of the author’s remarks is that the numbers of tourist arrivals in the region will continue to grow over the long-term at a rate approximately double that of the average for the world in general but that for the next few years this regional growth rate will drop substantially. And this deceleration will give the hotels and the resorts of the region a much needed breathing space in which to recover their equilibrium after the last few years of hectic expansion.

The number of hotel beds in Thailand’s major beach resort of Pattaya is to be doubled by the end of this year with the opening of several new luxury hotels.
Biggest of the new developments is to be the 650-room Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, which opened its first 100 rooms last December.
