Two of the new hotels, the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel and the Regent Pattaya, have perhaps led the field in developing new business. The Regent Pattaya successfully launched the Hong Kong Weekender package costing HK$ 950 which has brought into Pattaya a large number of Hong Kong residents and opened up to Pattaya an entirely new market. Other hotels have since cashed in on the potential and a number of tours originating in Hong Kong and destined for Pattaya hotels are now in the making.

If Hanoi decides to forgive and forget, some of the praise for the diplomatic feat will go to the staff of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel.

As soon as word come through that the Hanoi delegation was about to visit the beach resort and stay at the Royal Cliff, Mr. Fassbind and his merry men were busily planning their part in the historic event. It must be the first recorded visit by communist “tourists” to Thailand’s famed beach resort.
