You can count on your fingers the number of people who wore costumes to the Royal Cliff’s “Carnival Ball,” , climaxing a week of festivities from July 17-24. Apart from the lake of any attendant participation, it was a big rollicking success, as lively, splendid and merry as it was meant to be for well over 500 guests who attended the Cliff’s “final fling,” a benefit affair, the proceeds of which would go to the Thai Association.

A little after 8 pm , guests were already streaming into wild colourful tableaux in keeping with the .

Japanese designer Wes Otsuka, who presented a special fashion presentation in association with Bill Hersey last Wednesday night at the Cliff, was also on hand to do some body painting on some of the go-go girls and boys, who were among the main attractions at the grand ball.

Guests were offered “Carnival Cups” in the Lobby; the Pepe Lienhard Showband and the silver Rain alternated playing on two separated stages in the Siam Hall; a running “Stand-up” buffet, as generous as the occasion warranted, was served non-stop until midnight with most of the guests eating at the tables anyway. Carnival were given away; Pepe Lienhard Band performed their spectacular sound and light “Showband Show,” and led the Polonaise after Prime Minister M.R. Seni Pramoj officially presided at the official of Royal Cliff Beach Hotel last Thursday afternoon. A Royal Cliff Hotel guestMidnight; and there were prizes for costume selections too.

The evening was emceed by Ed Hunter, who contributed his unflagging enthusiasm and surefire success with audience during the games and surprise number. All the key staff and management of the Royal Cliff, led by X. Fassbind, were present in full force to greet friends, guest and all well wisher, most of them top executives and staff themselves of in and Pattaya. Too bad some members of our staff didn’t get the same kind of treatment. We just hope the money raised will be wisely and charitably spent.
